For those with children on school meals please can we remind you to make sure you
pre-order your child's meal on School Grid. This can be done in advance or up to the night before. Meals are prepared based on the pre-orders so if we have a large number of children that don't like/want what has been pre-ordered for them there isn't always the option for them to choose something else. If you are unsure your child may like the option for the day we do now have a sandwich option that you are able to pre-order instead. Thank you for your support with this. Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back! We hope you all had an enjoyable and rest- ful break! Last half term, we worked incredibly hard across the curriculum! Our clever children have continued to work their socks off and we are so pleased with the work they have produced and the enthusiasm they are showing in their own learning. When do I? Where do I? The children have been working hard and have already pro- duced fantastic work. This term there is a history and ge- ography focus across school. With the title of our quest being ‘When do I? Where do I? We are stepping into the shoes of historians to make comparisons between the past and present and as geographers to explore our local and national areas. This term children have taken on the role of Junior Government Ministers! Year 3 have been exploring sports and leisure, learning about the impact football clubs, such as Stockport County, have on their local area. We have plotted routes on maps, created our own questionnaires to interpret data and used compass points and coordinates to locate places. We loved our trip to Edgeley Park and we have also visited the Na- tional Football Museum to learn more about pioneering figures, such as Lily Parr. We took part in a workshop, ex- plored the exhibitions and even got to take part in a penalty shoot out! In our workshop, we got to explore primary and secondary sources and we loved impressing the staff with our fantastic knowledge! At the beginning of the term, Year 4 stepped into the shoes of a Hazel Grove soldier, as they were enlisted into WW1! They have explored how and why the war started and have created their own timelines to retell the key events in their own words. They have compared maps of German territo- ries, before and after the war, and have used their historical and geographical understanding to keep evacuees safe, by suggesting the safest locations for them to stay. Year 4 are very much looking forward to their trip to the Stockport Air Raid Shelters in March, where they will explore the impact that the war had on those nationally and how evacuation impacted daily life. Reading As always, reading is a very important part of learning at Norbury Hall. We encourage children to develop their read- ing skills and want to inspire their own reading for pleas- ure. To benefit your child, we are asking children to read at home at least three times a week and for this to be recorded in their reading records. This will be checked daily, during the school day. Book Fortnight As we return to school, it is the start of our whole school Book Fortnight. We will start the fortnight with the story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This year, our theme is food poverty and hunger. Each year group will look at a range of age appropriate books to help develop an understanding of the importance of eating a balanced diet to keep healthy, why food is important and how we can reuse and repurpose food items. Cooking Alongside our reading focus, each year group will be looking at an aspect of Design Technology, (cooking and nutrition). Year 3 and 4 will be identifying food groups, discussing what we need to make a healthy diet and exploring the ori- gins of our food. We will also be designing and making our own soup, using our slicing, cutting, chopping and grating skills. Each class will get the opportunity to design, prepare, make and taste make a dish which includes fruit or vegetables. Children will look at health and safety when cooking and use different skills when making their dishes. School will be providing the ingredients for these lessons. Please speak to your child’s class teacher if you have any concerns about allergies whilst cooking. Read dating For Read Dating we ask the children to bring in to school their favourite book from home, to share with their peers. The children will have the opportunity to share their book and discuss why and what it is they enjoy about their book. This could be a story, a non-fiction text, a cook book or even an atlas. Year 3 have enjoyed their session already! Reading den-As in previous years, our Library will be transformed into a magical reading den. All children across the school, will get the chance to reading in the den with their class, across the fortnight. This year’s den will be The Bucket’s house from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. Once the children step inside, they will be transported to the inside of the chocolate factory. Please see the grid at the bottom of the Newsletter for key dates for Book Fortnight for Year 3 and 4. Home Learning Competition For home learning, we would like to ask the children to create their own book character from a repurposed or unused healthy fruit or vegetable. Also, we would like the children to write a label for their book character, telling us who their character is and also display their name and class on it. Once the competition is over, the fruit and vegetables will be put into our school composter, which wil then in turn be used to grow more fruit and vegetables in school. Entries need to in school on Monday 3rd March. Please see Mrs Adnett's newsletter for ideas. Dear Parents and Carers,

Hello everyone We've fixed some broken links in the Parent's Hub section. You can now easily access the timetables and learning overviews for each year group. Thank you Login to the Parent's Hub here...Last night, a group of Year 5 and 6 children attended the Stockport Dodgeball Finals, at Bramhall High School. It was a very fast paced tournament, and even though we lost our first game, we managed to come first in our group.
Through teamwork, reliance and communication we battled on, getting better with every game, confidence growing. Overall we came 2nd out of all the schools in Stockport, losing extremely narrowly to Pownal Green. There is a chance that we could go through to the Greater Manchester Youth Games and represent Stockport, we will be notified about this in due course. Congratulations to the children who took part, they should feel very proud of themselves. Well done Norbury! Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back! We hope you all had an enjoyable and restful break! Last half term, we worked incredibly hard across the curriculum! Year 2 have looked at areas of transport and how these have changed. Reading As always, reading is a very important part of learning at Norbury Hall. We encourage children to develop their reading skills and want to inspire their own reading for pleasure. To benefit your child, we are asking children to read at home at least three times a week and for this to be recorded in their reading records. This will be checked daily, during the school day. We are also encouraging the use of our online reading platform, Bug Club for the children to read a range of books and develop their understanding of what they have read. A fruit box will be available on the KS1 playground for families to help themselves to a piece of fruit or veg to use. Once the competition is over, the fruit and vegetables will be put into our school composter, which will then in turn be used to grow more items in school. Entries are due in on Monday 3rd March. Please see the grid at the bottom of the Newsletter for key dates for Book Fortnight for Year 1 and 2. Dear Parents and Carers, I hope you all had a lovely half term break. We are looking forward to working with your children again this half term. The half term begins with our Book Fortnight with many exciting activities planned for the children. We then return to our Quest – Where do I? When do I? Website Our new website is now live – thank you to the Parents’ Association for part funding this. We hope this will help to improve communications between home and school as well as celebrate the many things that are part of Norbury life. Newsletters will now be posted on the website rather than emailed to you. We will send a text alert when a new letter is available. Governing Board Following a recent recruitment process, we are delighted to welcome Ruth Rawsthorne and Miriam Bentley to the Governing Board. Visit from Lisa Smart MP We were delighted to welcome Lisa Smart to school on 7th February. She had a tour of the school, met with some representatives of the School Council and led an assembly for the children in Years 1 – 6. She was genuinely interested in our school in terms of our successes but also some of the challenges we face in the world of education. We are hopeful that this relationship will continue. Parents’ Association News The recent disco raised an amazing £1511. Thank you to those families who supported this event. Thank you to the PA for the Valentine’s sweet treat – the children and staff appreciated this. The Parents’ Association have organised a costume swap before our World Book Dress Up Day on Wednesday 5th March. Please see the PA website for further information www.norburyhallpa.co.uk. Dear Parents and Carers, The children have had a great half term and have been enjoying their learning through our whole school quest, ‘When Do I? Where Do I?’ They really showed interest in looking at and thinking about old toys that you and their grandparents used to play with. In circle time, we talked about ‘Where do I live’’? encouraging the children to talk about their families and their homes too. Mental Health Week gave the children opportunities to join in with a range of activities to help them begin to recognise and share their feelings. We also talked about our friends and collectively, created a collage ‘kindness garden’ which now enhances our role play home area. This week, we have enjoyed listening to a colour poem, which helps children begin to connect their emotions and emotion-words to feelings and colours. Next half term, we will be starting off with Book Fortnight. It would be lovely if the children could bring in a favourite book to share. Please make sure their name is in their book and I’ll endeavour to read them all with the children over the course of time! As nursery is very much part of the main school, we will also be celebrating Book Character day. Children are welcome to dress up in their favourite book character clothes, but please don’t feel you have to buy anything special for this event. I have a good collection of dressing up clothes here in nursery, if needed. Later in March, the school council are aiming to raise money and donations for Stockport Food Bank and Make-a-Wish charity. They are asking the children to wear ‘odd shoes’ on this day. It sounds fun to do, but please could you make sure that footwear is even as they are still learning to coordinate their movements and I don’t want the children to feel off balance. Perhaps you could add different things to trainers or wellies eg coloured laces/bows, tie in/tape on a small toy? It’s up to you! Thank you so much for your continued support, The Early Years Nursery Team Dates for your diary
