Good morning,
Our school nurse Steph is holding drop in sessions on Wednesday 5th March. The school nursing service are able to support and advise on all aspects of child health, development and parenting including – sleep, healthy eating and behaviour. If you would like to make an appointment with our school nurse to discuss one of these matters please email me directly by Friday 14th February. If you would like advice or support regarding toileting Steph will be happy to take the details to pass on to the continence team. Please email [email protected] with your child's name, date of birth and a brief note of the area to be discussed. This will remain confidential but it allows Steph to be prepared. Please be aware that these sessions are very popular and we will make our best efforts to accommodate all. Kind regards, Julie Rice Fundraiser 19th MarchDear Parents and Carers,
We are holding a fundraiser on Wednesday 19th March to support Stockport food bank and Make-a-wish. We would like each child to bring in £1 and a tin or food item of your choice. On this day we would like everyone to wear odd shoes. (The crazier the better!) A bit about the charities: We are supporting Stockport food bank to provide three days, nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people. On the other hand, Make-a-wish is part of a global movement that grants life changing wishes that have the power to turn tears into cheers. We thank everyone for your support. We can’t wait for this exciting day to come! Many thanks, A reader for pleasure is more likely to be happier, healthier, to do better at school.Dear Parents and Carers, Book fortnight is a special two weeks in school designated to raising the profile of reading for pleasure and helping the children to recognise the importance of reading. Reading for pleasure opens up new worlds for our children. It gives them the opportunity to use their imagination to explore new ideas, visit new places and meet new characters. Interestingly, reading for pleasure also improves children’s well-being and empathy. It helps them to understand their own identity and gives them an insight into the world and the views of others. This year, book fortnight will run from Monday 24th February and our focus for book fortnight is around hunger and food poverty. Through exploring books around these topics the children will have the opportunity to empathise with others and understand why it is important to eat a healthy balanced diet. We will be using Charlie and the Chocolate Factory as a stimulus for this theme, exploring the characters and their actions in this story. We will also link our Design and Technology learning about food to this theme and the children will be designing, making and evaluating their own food creations! Home Learning In addition, during this fortnight, the children will also be involved in many other activities to promote a love of reading. For home learning we would like the children to create their own book character from a healthy fruit or vegetable. We would also like the children to write a label for their book character telling us who their character is and also displays their own name and class on it. Competitions always create a real buzz about books and the children always enjoy sharing their creations. Once these are completed, we will then display these in school, and we will award prizes for each class. We would like the children to complete their creation and bring it into school for the week beginning Monday 3rd March where they will be shared and discussed in class and prizes will be given for creativity. Dressing up day On Wednesday 5th March the children can come dressed as their favourite book character or they can wear their own clothes. Again, this provides the opportunity to discuss different book characters and share ideas for reading. The PA are arranging a costume swap ahead of World Book Day where parents will be able to bring in unwanted/outgrown costumes and they will then set up a stall after school for people to make a donation for a new outfit before the big day. More information on this will follow shortly. Read Dating (Year 1-6) The children will also be asked to bring in their favourite book. This is so that the children can participate in an activity where they share these books with each other, promoting them to their classmates. The children need to be able to discuss their book and why they really enjoyed it. The idea is that during this session the children will hear about at least 30 different books that they might also potentially enjoy. Your class teacher will be sending out a note informing you on which day your child needs to bring in their book. The children will also be involved in many other activities during book fortnight such as visiting our reading den on the theme of Charlie and Chocolate Factory and other quizzes and reading competitions. We hope the children enjoy all the activities we have planned for Book Fortnight and also have plenty of opportunities to read for pleasure both in school and at home. We will be sending out further suggestions of exciting reads for you child during our Book Fortnight. Best wishes,
Dear Parents and Carers, This half term is moving at pace and the children have achieved many things in the four weeks since our return to school. We have unfortunately had a lot of our children unwell but we are hoping as we nudge towards spring, we are healthier. Children's Mental Health Week Thank you to those of you who attended our coffee morning for Children's Mental Health Week this morning. This will be a focus of learning for the children across this week. This is the link to the official website for the week if you would like to explore this further - https://www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk/. School staff are obviously willing to discuss anything related to children's mental health with you. Parent Teacher Meetings Parent and teacher meetings are scheduled for Tuesday 4th March and Thursday 6th March. For Nursery parents there is an additional session on Wednesday 5h March in the morning. We will be using the online booking system again for you to be able to book appointments. If you have any queries about how to use the system, please contact our office team. For parents of children in Mrs Matthews' class we will not be taking bookings at this point. The children can come in something suitable to mark the day or just something they find comfortable to wear. Please bring a £1 cash donation to support the PA. Parking Our School Council have been working hard to encourage responsible parking around our school. You will have noticed that we have cones in certain locations to deter parking. Shortly, you will be seeing banners go up to support this initiative. The School Council held a competition for the children in school to design a banner. Well done to Oakley in Year 2 who was the winner. Safeguarding Safeguarding our children at Norbury Hall is at the heart of all we do. Please do not be offended if your children attend Norbury Tinkers after school and school staff will not let you enter the building to pick them up. It is important that you use the Norbury Tinkers doorbell so that they can supervise the collection of your children. Website We are in the process of updating our school website and we are very nearly ready to go live. We are very pleased with how the new site is looking. Once live, we would welcome your feedback. There are statutory items that have to go on a school website but we want the new website to be informative for our current parents and carers as well as parents or carers who may be new to our school. Your feedback will help us to achieve this. We will send a text to inform you when the website is available. The children across the nursery have been busy creating a Kindness Garden together. We talked about what made us feel happy and how we can make each other smile in circle time! The children explored a range of materials to make their flowers and then had lots of fun painting, cutting and sticking and finally adding sparkles and glitter to this masterpiece! We hope our Kindness Garden is enjoyed by all those who are visiting our school, as it will be displayed in the school hall. The Early Years Nursery Team
