We’re really excited about the progress we’re making with our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) project and how it’s helping us make lunchtimes even more fun, creative and adventurous for our children!
We’d love to invite you to come along and experience OPAL for yourself at our upcoming Stay & Play session: Thursday 15th October 3.30pm – 4.30pm Come along, get involved and see some of the exciting ways our children are learning and playing outdoors. Spaces are limited, so please visit our OPAL page for more information from our Deputy Headteachers Bridget Adnett and Hannah Garrett and to complete the form to secure your place: Opal at Norbury https://www.norburyhall.stockport.sch.uk/opal-at-norbury.html We can’t wait to see you there! Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you for your support at the start of a busy autumn term. The children have settled well and are enjoying their learning and time with friends. It has been lovely to see our Reception and Nursery children so integrated into school life. Four Rivers Trust We continue to be proud to be a part of the Four Rivers Trust. The annual report for last year can be found using the following link - https://www.four-rivers.co.uk/latest-news/. Please take time to read this and find out what the schools in the Trust have achieved and what the Trust continues to do. Office News Fran Travis was successful at the end of the summer term in gaining the position of Finance Officer for The Four Rivers Trust. The Trust is moving to a central team model for finance and HR and Fran will be an integral part of this. Mrs Michelle Flannery and Mrs Dawn Campbell continue to ensure that our office runs as it always has and offer you that first point of contact with the school. Safety and Consideration of our Neighbours when Parking We have had several complaints from our neighbours around the school site regarding irresponsible parking at the start and end of the school day. I would, once again, ask that you make safety your key priority when you drop your children off or pick them up. The new road markings may mean that you have to park further away and walk the final part of the journey. Traffic wardens have been in attendance already this term and we have requested that they visit more frequently. Uniform and Jewellery It has been good to see the children looking smart in their uniform. Please could I ask that all items of clothing are named so that they get back to your child if they get lost. Please label shoes as well as the children are frequently changing into their wellies to enjoy the OPAL activities at lunchtime. It is amazing how similar boys’ black shoes can be! Lost property is kept for a half term before being recycled. The school office only holds a small stock of uniform – please could we ask that you order uniform from our external supplier - https://www.norburyhall.stockport.sch.uk/school-uniform-list.html - this can then be delivered to home or school. The only jewellery worn permitted is stud earrings and / or a watch (not a Smart watch). Hoop earrings in particular can be extremely dangerous to wear for school. Safeguarding Safeguarding our children is integral to all that we do at Norbury Hall. At the start of the school year, I want to remind you who our Designated Safeguarding Leads are and how to raise a concern if you feel you need to. I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead with Bridget Adnett and Hannah Garrett assuming the role of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. You can raise a concern directly with ourselves or you can talk to your child’s class teacher. All of our staff undertake annual safeguarding training so they are well versed with the procedures in school. Parent / Teacher Meetings Parent and teacher meetings will be held on Tuesday 20th October and Thursday 22nd October. Early next week we will be sending you an email from ‘Parents Booking’ who are the online platform we use to organise Parent / Teacher Consultations. This allows you to choose, book and edit the meetings scheduled with the class teacher. These will take place on: Tuesday 20th October – 3:30pm - 7pm Thursday 22nd October – 3:30 pm – 6 pm The log in screen is very simple and straightforward to use, no username or password is required. If you have any queries regarding the online booking system, please contact the school office. Christmas 2026 We are in the process of finalising dates for Christmas events. Some are outlined in the diary dates below. Please be patient with us as we finalise other dates. I will get these out to parents as soon as possible. Thank you as ever for your continued support Becky Wood Dates for your diary
Autumn Term — What Can We Discover at Norbury Hall? Week Beginning: 21st September 2026 Dear Parents and Carers, A big welcome to you all! After a busy couple of weeks with the children settling into to school life, it is so lovely to see the children arriving with smiles and looking forward to an exciting day ahead! They are continuing to familiarise and learn more about their learning environments and have been enjoying their lunchtimes with lots of exciting areas to play in. Over the next two weeks, we will be… Talking about our families and where we live. Please send in your family photo if you have not already done so. Reading stories about families e.g. Owl Babies and retelling the story together. Drawing pictures and labelling, ‘Who is in our family?’ ‘Where do I live?’ Exploring different materials in our construction area and building houses together. Creating our own junk models, using different resources including using scissors Looking at the sounds (phonemes): s,a,t,p, i, n, m, d. Tricky words to learn by sight (these cannot be sounded out) I go no to the into Matching, sorting and comparing objects and numbers Bug Club Bug Club is a brilliant online resource we have in school and you’ll find your child’s login for Bug Club stuck in the front of your child’s reading record book. Please do let us know if you are having any issues logging on. Last week, we allocated books without words for your child to share with you and to enjoy collecting the rewards through the little bugs. We allocate new books on there each week (by Friday), in addition to the reading books that come home. Children can apply their phonic knowledge and practise further at home online. To access please visit: https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/loginc=0 Labelling Please can you ensure that clothing is well labelled. This will include hats, scarves, coats and jumpers. Many thanks. PE starts this week! Scooters and Bikes As a school we encourage children to come to school on their bikes and scooters, but can we kindly ask they dismount their bike or scooter at the gate and then walk it into school. We do have a large bike shed in the junior playground which is available to use. Our school site is extremely busy in the mornings and at the end of the day and we want to keep everyone safe. Many thanks for your support with this. Please do not hesitate to speak/email a member of staff if you have any concerns about your child or any questions.
Thank you so much, The Reception Team A big thank you to everyone who came along to our Meet the Teacher Evening. It was lovely to see so many of you and we hope you found the evening useful.
If you’d like to revisit anything that was discussed, you can now find your year group presentation in the Parent’s Hub on our website. Thank you for your continued support. Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to our Year 5 and 6 children to another fun-filled year! We hope you have all had a great summer break and are enjoying seeing your children settle into the new term. We have enjoyed getting to know the children and we are excited to see the amazing work they will produce this term! We have been working hard across the school to follow new routines and we have been very impressed with the children’s attitude towards their learning. What Will We Discover at Norbury Hall? This term there is a science focus right across school with the title of our new quest being ‘What Will We Discover at Norbury Hall?’ We are stepping into the shoes of scientists to bring our learning to life, beginning to think scientifically and to question the world around us. Reading As always, reading is a very important part of learning at Norbury Hall. We encourage children to develop their reading skills and want to inspire their own reading for pleasure. Every classroom has a reading area for our children to enjoy and an adult in school will hear them read each week. To benefit your child, we are asking children to read at home at least three times a week and for this to be recorded in their reading records. This will be checked daily, during the school day. Each class also has an author box which allows them to explore a range of books from chosen authors. The author boxes will then be swapped between year groups after the half term break. TTRS
Every child in the school also has an individual login for Times Tables Rock Stars. This is a brilliant way for our children to secure their times tables in fun way. Your child’s class teacher will set specific times tables personalised to their ability and they will be allocated time at school to practise, however we know that any additional time spent using TTRS at home has a huge impact on securing a quick recall of division and multiplication facts. Alongside reading, we are also asking that children play TTRS at least 3 times a week. General Information With the colder weather on its way, please can we request that children bring a coat with them each day. A pair of wellies and full waterproofs are also essential for our OPAL lunchtime play and outdoor learning opportunities. It would be useful, as with all items, that they are clearly labelled. Can we also request that children bring water to school, rather than juice for their classroom drink. Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to our Year 3 and 4 children for another fun-filled year! We hope you have all had a great summer break and are enjoying seeing your children settle into the new term. We have really enjoyed getting to know the children a little better and we are excited to see the brilliant work they will produce this term! This term there is a science focus right across school with the title of our new quest being ‘What Will We Discover at Norbury Hall?’ We are stepping into the shoes of scientists to bring our learning to life, beginning to think scientifically and to question the world around us. We’ll be making the most of our fantastic school grounds with Year 3 exploring plants and pollination as brilliant botanists and Year 4 will also be bioloists using classification keys to identify animals and insects around the school grounds and finding the perfect habitat for their own creature. Many thanks for your support with this. Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to a new school year. For those of you joining us for the first time, can I extend a very warm welcome to the Norbury Hall family. We recognise that this may all seem very new for you and your child and you may have many questions. Please ask either the staff who are working with your child or feel free to contact the school office as we want you and your child to feel confident in this new venture. Please contact the office either by phone or [email protected]. Our newsletters are published on the school website and you will receive a text message when new letters are posted. The school website is a great source of information about the school so please use this to keep up to date and informed. Meet the Teacher Event – Wednesday 16th September Parents of children in Years 1 - 6 are invited to attend our annual Meet the Teacher event. We will be holding sessions at 4:00 pm and 4:45 pm – the session will be a repeat so that you can attend more than one session if you have more than one child in the school. The session will outline the necessary information for the children in each year group and you will have a chance to ask any questions. Please enter the school via the main entrance; sessions will be held in the classrooms. Communication with School It is really important to us that you converse with us regarding your child. There are obviously formal events within the calendar to facilitate this but we recognise there are many other times where you may have messages you want to convey or need a conversation. You are welcome to hold an informal conversation with teachers at the end of the day. However, if this is a longer conversation, it may be necessary to make an appointment for a more formal conversation. A quick message can be placed in your child’s reading record. These are checked each day. The office staff are also available if you need to get a message to us. Please contact them either by telephone or email. Teachers will respond to an email you send to their personal email address but please be mindful that within a busy teaching day they do not have time to check their emails whilst they are teaching. Emails will not be responded to before 8 am and after 5 pm. Medical Updates If following the summer break, you have any medical updates regarding your child, please let us know. You can either email the office with the update or make an appointment to see your child’s class teacher. If your child has an inhaler, please make sure we have this in school and that it is date. If your child has a Medical Care Plan, we will shortly be sending them out for you to review and sign. If your child needs medication given to them during the school day, you must complete a form which is available in the school entrance. This must be passed to the office team who will ensure that the right people know about this. Our School Nursing team encourage us to only administer prescribed medication however we recognise that sometimes medicine such as Calpol will help your child be in school. If you are available to come and administer this during the school day, we would appreciate this. However, if this isn’t possible we are happy to administer Calpol that you have sent into school – a form needs to be completed in the same way outlined above. Safer Eating In line with statutory national statutory guidance, we have been updating our policy and practice around safer eating in school and the management of allergies. To support this, we would ask two things:
It is really important that your child is in school as much as possible. Missing time in school impacts learning and the important social interactions your child has whilst they are with us. Any child with attendance of 90% or below (regardless of the reason for any absences) is considered to be a persistent absentee by the government and we will pursue a conversation with parents if this is the case. We do recognise that children get poorly and if your child is genuinely unwell and cannot come to school we ask that you contact the school office to inform us of the absence. If your child has sickness or diarrhoea, they must stay off school for 48 hours from the last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting. We ask that you make any routine medical appointments outside of the school day. Your child should not be absent for day trips, holidays or birthdays or if a parent or sibling are ill. In essence, it is really important that your child is in school. Equally, it is important that they are punctual so that they don’t miss the start of the learning day and don’t feel anxious about coming in late. More information about attendance can be found on our school website in our Attendance Policy. Home/School Agreement Please could you read our Home/School Agreement and our Expectations of Parents and Carers. Both of these documents can be found on the school website. If you would like to discuss the content of either document, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Online platforms We use the following online platforms:
Our Parents’ Association raised in excess of £15,000 for us last year. This money enables us to offer so much more to our children. They are holding their AGM in school on Wednesday 30th September at 6 pm – all are welcome to attend. Finally, we never underestimate the trust you put in us as we care for your children and support their learning journey. We very much want to make this year a successful partnership with you so that your child can achieve the very best possible outcomes and successes. Dates for your diary...
